About

Artistic Director

Sheree Froelich

Hi! I’m Sheree Froelich the founding Artistic Director of Broken Wing Productions!!! I’m an actor, writer, producer, and corgi mom.

In 2015, after a long hiatus, I decided it was time to let myself tap back into my greatest passion and start doing theater again. But having worked in a different market previously and it being so long since I’d been involved in theater, it was challenging trying to navigate the Minneapolis/St. Paul theater scene as a new person. Luckily, a friend from my former theater life out of state directed me toward some amazing and generous Minnesota theater humans that took the time to support me and guide me through the process. But here’s the deal, I know I got lucky. I know that this isn’t always the case for most people. And those people that get lost in the cracks can so often be the new beautiful voices that will tell the stories we’ve yet to hear; the artists that will make Minneapolis/St. Paul theater grow deeper and more engaging to a variety of artists and audience members. With their voices added, we will all thrive!

After lots of idea sharing, day dreaming, soul searching, and lively debates about how best we as a community should be engaging new artists, Nicole, Scot and I decided in 2024 to put our energy where our mouth is and do our best to do the thing! With a ton of caffeine and inspiration we began to gather the best and the brightest from our beautiful theater community, and Broken Wing Productions grew into a mentorship-based theater company.

I’m constantly in awe of the beautiful art that exists in Minneapolis/St. Paul. There are so many wonderfully talented humans creating here every day. I’m proud to be a part of this community and monumentally pumped to be a member of the team that will bring Broken Wing Productions into this wonderful theater family we call home. I believe that theater brings people together. As artists our greatest contribution to society is lifting up each others’ stories so we can all coexist in a kinder, more thoughtful, and enlightened community. Your stories matter to me. Exploring your artistic avenues is something I think we should all help each other do! If there’s anything Broken Wing can do to support you, I’d love to talk with you about your creative ambitions to see how we can cheer you on and support you in your endeavors!

Mentorship Director

Nicole Wilder

When I first relocated to the Twin Cities after earning a Master’s degree in Theater from Miami University in 2008, I didn’t quite know what I wanted to do. All I knew was that Minneapolis had a great reputation for supporting the arts, and I wanted to be a part of the magic. It took some trial and error, but I soon realized that what really lit my fire was a passion for bringing new and innovative works to the stage. I have a special place in my heart for emerging artists; it is an honor to be invited to the ground floor.

But it’s not just my love of emerging artists that drew me to this position with Broken Wing. Yes, by night I am a theater professional. By day, however, my theater career has been enriched by my extensive experience in instructional design, where I specialize in crafting tailored learning experiences that empower and inspire. I’m so excited to bring this unique combination of experience and expertise to Broken Wing’s mission.

I am deeply committed to nurturing emerging talent and fostering a supportive, creative environment where artists can thrive. My approach combines rigorous artistic exploration with a genuine passion for mentoring, empowering the next generation of theater-makers to not only find their voice but also to connect them with the opportunities that will allow that voice to be heard.

Managing Director

Scot Froelich

I spent the first ten or so years of my theatrical career auditioning, acting, designing, directing, and generally working to forward myself as an interpretive theatre artist. At a certain point, it was brought to my attention that – as a cis/het white man – theatre participation is skewed heavily in my favor. I saw audition rooms for casts of 5 men and 2 women filled with 6 men and 30 women. To say nothing of the dearth of roles available for people of color, trans, and non-binary performers. The diversity of those who wished to tell stories didn’t match the demographics of those in charge of telling stories.

Starting in 2010, I ventured on a long series of attempts to draw attention to these types of issues, including original shows like Men Will Be Boys and Aging In An Age of Change, as well as a discussion series and blog called A Man’s Guide for Appropriate Behavior in the 21st Century.

Ultimately, these efforts all still centered my voice in one way or another. Helping manage Broken Wing seemed the next logical step to help center more diverse voices. I can provide technical and business support to those who have the will and desire to make the arts a more inclusive space. Now, as a nearly 25-year veteran of the Twin Cities theatre community, I am ecstatic to take on a new role helping to promote the work of others.
